Bachelor in International Trade Law, majoring in International Trade Law (for cohorts from K65 onward)

1. Training objectives

The Bachelor programme in International Trade Law aims to train high-quality legal professionals with solid knowledge and a globally integrated mindset, capable of undertaking professional, research, advisory, and managerial positions in the field of international trade law. Graduates are expected to possess the ability to analyse and resolve legal issues arising from global commercial activities, demonstrate proficiency in legal English, and uphold professional integrity, innovative thinking, and a strong sense of social responsibility. The programme also contributes to the mission of serving society through excellence and innovation in education, while affirming Foreign Trade University’s pioneering role in legal education closely linked with commerce and international integration, thereby meeting the demands of development and competitiveness in the context of globalization.

The programme is designed in alignment with the national standards for undergraduate law programmes as promulgated under Decision No. 678/QĐ-BGDĐT dated 14 March 2025, as well as the 2025 plan for programme evaluation and improvement. Accordingly, the curriculum is developed and continuously refined based on the principles of fundamental orientation, openness, flexibility, comprehensiveness, and streamlining, with a focus on specialized and in-depth training.

Students who complete the Bachelor programme in International Trade Law are expected to achieve, at a minimum, the following specific objectives:

PO1 – In-depth Specialized Knowledge

Graduates are able to demonstrate, explain, and analyse in-depth specialized knowledge of international trade law, including WTO law and bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements (FTAs).

PO2 – Legal Practice Skills in International Trade

Graduates are able to apply, analyse, and interpret legal rules to address legal issues arising from international trade activities. They are also able to perform legal tasks that require adaptability to changes in international trade.

PO3 – Foreign Language Proficiency and Information Technology Application

Graduates are able to use legal English effectively in international transactions, negotiations, and dispute resolution proceedings. They are able to conduct legal research, compare different national legal systems, and apply comparative legal knowledge in professional practice. They are also able to use information technology to support legal research, information retrieval, legal analysis, and problem-solving, as well as analyse emerging legal issues in global trade, such as cross-border e-commerce, cross-border data flows, intellectual property, and artificial intelligence in the context of international trade integration.

PO4 – Professional Qualities and Ethics

Graduates are able to demonstrate political awareness, ethical qualities, a sense of responsibility, and a professional attitude in performing their work. They are able to comply with legal and professional ethical standards and contribute to the community through responsible legal practice.

PO5 – Autonomy and Lifelong Learning Capacity

Graduates are able to engage in self-directed learning, work independently, think critically, and adapt proactively to changes. They are able to develop creative and entrepreneurial initiatives in the field of international law, contribute to policy development and Vietnam’s economic and legal integration, and pursue further studies at higher levels or specialized training programmes, such as lawyer qualification courses, economic law, international trade law, and related fields.
