REGULATION ON TRAINING FOR THE SATELLITE PROGRAM “DATA SCIENCE IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS”

REGULATION ON TRAINING FOR THE SATELLITE PROGRAM “DATA SCIENCE IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS”

CHAPTER I. GENERAL PROVISIONS

Article 1. Scope of regulation and subjects of application

  1. This Regulation covers: admission and enrollment, assessment of learning outcomes, recognition of program completion and award of certificates, deferral and withdrawal from the program.
  2. This Regulation applies to learners of the Satellite Program “Data Science in Economics and Business”.

Article 2. Courses

Courses in the Satellite Program include:

  1. Prerequisite courses: When joining the program, learners must have completed the two courses Advanced Mathematics and Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, or equivalent courses. The results of these two courses may be converted from equivalent courses in the learner’s undergraduate academic program according to the list of courses equivalent to the prerequisite courses. (Appendix 1)
  2. Core courses of the program: courses containing the essential knowledge of the program, which learners are required to complete, comprising 3 courses:
  • Databases;
  • Programming for Data Analysis and Scientific Computing;
  • Advanced Analytics in Economics and Business.

CHAPTER II. ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENT

Article 3. Admission and entry requirements

Learners join the program according to the following procedure:

  1. Learners register to join the program when an announcement is made and provide full evidence that they have completed or are currently taking the 2 prerequisite courses (Advanced Mathematics, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, or equivalent courses).
  2. Learners are eligible for admission to the program when they obtain a “Pass” result in the entrance test, which consists of 1 multiple-choice reasoning test and an essay.

Article 4. Enrollment

  1. Learners must pay the full tuition fee before the program starts, complete the enrollment procedures as instructed and fully declare the information required by the Program;
  2. Each learner is assigned a unique learner ID. If the learner is a student currently studying at Foreign Trade University at the start of the course, the learner uses the student ID already assigned as the learner ID. This ID is used throughout the learner’s participation in the program;
  3. The University is responsible for providing full information on the objectives, content and training plans of the programs; the training regulations, and the obligations and rights of learners when participating in the program.

CHAPTER III. ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING OUTCOMES

Article 5. Methods, content and forms of course testing and assessment

  1. Testing and assessment methods include (but are not limited to): presentations, objective tests (true/false questions, multiple-choice questions, matching questions, ordering questions), written tests (short answers, true/false questions with explanation, case studies…), oral examinations, essays, projects, thematic reports, practical work and other methods, or a combination of the above;
  2. The methods, content and forms of course testing and assessment and the weight of each component score must be specified in the detailed course syllabus approved by the Rector and publicly announced by the lecturer to learners before the course begins;
  3. Learners are only allowed to sit the final examination of a course if they meet all of the following conditions: attending at least 75% of the class periods prescribed for the course; and having an attendance score and midterm score of 4.0 or higher (on a 10-point scale).
  4. If unable to take a test as scheduled, learners must notify the training management unit before the exam date to complete the procedures for rescheduling or exam postponement in accordance with the training regulations of Foreign Trade University.

Article 6. Calculation of component scores and course scores

  1. Component scores and final examination scores are graded on a 10-point scale (from 0 to 10) and rounded to one decimal place;
  2. The course score is calculated as the sum of the component scores multiplied by their respective weights, rounded to one decimal place and classified into letter grades as follows:
  3. Graded pass levels, applicable to courses counted towards the cumulative grade point average (CGPA), including:

A (8.5 – 10.0)

B (7.0- 8.4)

C (5.5 – 6.9)

D (4.0 – 5.4)

Article 7. Ranking and commendation of learners

  1. At the end of each course intake, the University ranks learners by their CGPA for the courses taught in the intake and selects the 05 learners with the highest CGPA (calculated to two decimal places) for commendation;
  2. If several learners have the same CGPA, the University applies the secondary criterion of the score for the Databases course (FDC103).

CHAPTER IV. RECOGNITION OF PROGRAM COMPLETION AND AWARD OF CERTIFICATES

Article 8. Recognition of program completion and award of certificates to learners

Learners are awarded a certificate when they meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Having accumulated sufficient credits for the prerequisite courses when joining the program;
  2. Having a final score of 4.0 or higher (on a 10-point scale) in each course taken in the program.

For learners who do not meet the conditions for a certificate, the University will only issue an academic transcript.

CHAPTER V. DEFERRAL AND WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PROGRAM

Article 9. Deferral and withdrawal from the program

Procedures for suspending the program and resuming study after the suspension period:

  1. Learners who suspend the program and defer their learning results must submit an application using the form (Appendix 2) to the training management unit no later than 02 weeks from the start date of the course (in the case of suspending a course) or 02 weeks from the start date of the program intake and before the midterm test (in the case of suspending the entire program). After this deadline, learners are obliged to pay tuition fees and receive actual scores for the courses registered in the semester (except in cases of illness or unexpected accidents). Learners may only defer for the duration of 1 intake, and tuition fees will not be refunded;
  2. Learners who have suspended the program and wish to return must submit an application to resume study using the form (Appendix 2) to the training management unit no later than 01 week before the new intake begins;
  3. Other cases will be considered and decided by the program’s training management unit on a case-by-case basis.
